AGRICOLA POGGIO SALVI – SOVICILLE (SI)
L’Azienda Agricola Poggio Salvi is
located at about 11 chilometres south-west of the
city of Siena, in the Comune of Sovicille in the
province of Siena, on the slope of a hill 280 m.
above sea level, in the heart of Tuscany. Poggio Salvi
is within the region called Chianti Colli Senesi, one
of the seven areas recognized as Denominazione di Origine
Controllata e Garantita (D.O.C.G.) of the Chianti district.
The estate extends on a surface of 15Ha ettari
in a medium mixed soil with tufa which is the characteristic
of the areas around the city of Siena. The climate is
of continental type with cold winters, humid springs
and very hot and dry summers that facilitate the ripening
of the grapes.
The vineyards cover about 8ha, 5 of which are part
of the Chianti Colli Senesi D.O.C.G., while the others
produces wines of geographic appellation. Some of the
vineyards date back to the 1970’s, but the majority of
them was planted recently with a higher density of plants
per ha (5000). (5.000).
In 1980 Mrs.Laura Bicchi and her mother Grazia Mari,
with the help of Laura’s husband, Roberto Bonucci,
took over the management of the farm giving it a modern
imprint and a new life internationally. Since then, it
has been a continue search for improvement in the quality
of production, without loosing sight of tradition, investing
in new autochthon grapes such as Sangiovese, Colorino
and black Malvasian. From 1st of January 2004 the proprietorship
of the Azienda Agricola was handed over to Jacopo
Bonucci, the son of Laura Bicchi and Roberto
Bonucci, who had just obtained is qualification
as Perito Agrario (agricolture expertise) with a specialization
in Enology, who started to managed the production activities.
